letting go of goals...[SIEπ‘]
I'm so happy to be back writing the SIE for you all, even though a couple weeks off was so needed.
Instead of jumping back in here with all the rah-rah, New Year, let's get pumped, frantic energy that we're all so familiar with this time of year...
...I'm going to encourage you to let go of goal setting as we know it. π€―
Wait, what? It's true.
Even though I'm all about helping busy women entrepreneurs achieve success their way, I think the conversations around goals and breaking them down is broken.
Goals equate to hoop-jumping and performance. I can check off goals big and small all day, but that does not mean I've created a habit that will stick.
β In 2005/06 I completed two triathlons, a half marathon, and several 5-10ks. When I got injured, I stopped and never picked up running again. I had completed the goals.
β In 2021, for my 41st birthday, I committed to the #75Hard challenge. I did it. Boxed checked. It didn't change any of my long-term habits.
β I've lost and gained the same 40-50lbs multiple times since my 20's.
β I've read more than 50 books (business and pleasure) every year for the last 4 years. The business books were inspirational - but most didn't translate to daily, motivated action. All I did was create a habit of consumption, instead of creation.
So this year, I'm trusting myself to simply encourage a new way of BEING. Of showing up for myself every day (or most days) in a way that stretches my personal growth and invites presence and awareness of my Self.
And what I know is that in order to step into a new way of being in the world, I will have to slow down β not speed up.
Presence and awareness of my reactions, habits, neural pathways, ways of thinking β they require me to stop, pause, take a breath, and observe my actions.
My phrase for this year β my guiding principle β is simply:
I KEEP MY PROMISES TO MYSELF

TIPS TO WORK BETTER
1. I'm doing something I haven't done since 2017...opening up my calendar for client discovery calls! If you know that coaching and mentorship is the best way to get help with your business struggles and roadblocks, then let's jump on a call and see if we're a good fit to team up on growing your business. Spots are super limited - Book Here.
2. You've seen me mention Khe, founder of RadReads before. We met at Craft + Commerce, and I also took his free 3-day bootcamp early this year. On the surface, you might think we're competitors since we both teach entrepreneurs about productivity (with a heavy dose of living your best life). But the reality is, we both teach different paths to getting to the same place. I teach how to plan your priorities in a way that lets you focus more with less context switching (getting the right things done in less time). Khe teaches you how to know what those priorities should be in the first place. They're complimentary and work so well together.
And lucky you - his free 3-day bootcamp is back this week! You'll learn how to prioritize (when everything is a priority) and I can tell you from experience, this is one of the best free workshops I've attended in the last 5 years.
I'm happy to share, because I know if you're reading this, you care about working better so you can live well, and any way I can help you accomplish that is a-ok with me.

3. You probably don't have as much time as you think you have to work on your business. That is...if you care about putting yourself and family first. Follow these quick steps to see how to get a realistic picture of how much time you have so you can prioritize ruthlessly. See more.
TIPS TO LIVE WELL
1. Power of Positivity is one of my favorite Instagram accounts, and I loved this idea to harness the energy of presence: Start the year with an empty jar and fill it will notes about good things that happen. On New Years Eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened. Don't just get the warm fuzzy from the idea, let it inform a new way to count your blessings.
2. In continuing with the mindful presence theme today, I'm taking the time to snap a picture every day (or most days) of something that captures my attention and makes me sink into the present moment. I mean, we all have these amazing cameras (aka, phones) in our pockets. Instead of "Something Beautiful Every Day" (which makes me feel like a hoop to jump through and a box to check), I'm thinking of this as "Practicing Presence". I will be posting those moments on Instagram every Sunday to inspire you to do the same.
3. I love color - there's something about finding a sweater in the perfect shade of blue, or knowing which shade will make your eyes pop. And as an online business owner, you know the importance of color in your branding (how many color palettes do you have saved on Pinterest hmm?). I met Michelle in person last week and we hit it off (we might have also been unintentionally matching the colors we were wearing). Take her fun Color Personality Quiz to understand your communication style. Prepare to do down a rabbit hole!
